Hello Everyone!
I apologize it's taken me forever to update everyone. I've been soaking up every minute with these fabulous people and haven't taken the time until now to sit and write.
As I'm writing this I'm sitting in the Mission Center with our team while listening to the rain fall on our tin roof.
We arrived Monday nightor really Tuesday morning at about 2:30 in the morning. We were greeted in Managua by about 10 or so smiling faces of people from the village of Bethel. To say that it was great would be an understatement. This has been the easiest transition that I've ever had. I honestly feel like I'm back home.
One big blessing is the other 16 people that I'm working with are amazing. We have been so cohesive as a group and it has been so wonderful to see God work on each ones heart.
The day before we visited a new village called El Ensayo. These people are living under plastic, sticks and have no electricity. We gave out beans and rice and are going to go back next week to do VBS with their children.
We also went to a Special Needs school which is only about 15 minutes away. I expected to be really emotional, but that was one place that I've laughed the most. There are several different classrooms and each classroom is centered around a different disability. One classroom is for preschoolers, blind students, kids with brain damage, and higher functioning disabilities as well. The kids that are in the higher functioning classroom learn life-skills and they also make pinatas. We bought 2 from them because we have 2 team members with Birthday's this week.
The weather has been incredible too! It has been uncharacteristically cooler than I've every experienced. We did have one very big storm the other night and we were without power for a while, but luckily we have a generator so we've been running off of that.
There are more highlights of this trip that I definitely share with each of you soon. But, this post is going to be forever long if I do that. So, to end on the highlights I must say that the other afternoon when I was going through the VBS stuff I ran across the water games hooplah. Which of course distracted me and I then initiated the most serious water fight EVER! It started with the gringos and then the Nicaraguans who work on the project got involved. It lasted 1 1/2 hours! Needless to say I was soaked.
Spiritually speaking I feel as if I'm taking a step at a time and trying to follow the Lord's leading as to what relationships he really wants we to invest in. One girl who has been on my heart for quite sometime is Elizabeth (16 yrs. old). Her Dad, Leandro died about a year and a 1/2 ago and she's been joining our group the last 2 days. She has not been super talkative which I'm not used to, but it's ok. She did start opening up yesterday and would mention her Dad periodically. She noticed my Bible Study book (Navigators) yesterday and started asking me about it. So, that was totally an answer to prayer because now she's going to start coming over to the Mission Center 2 days/week to do Bible Study together. Please pray that this relationship grows if this is who God is wanting me to invest in.
Thank you all so much for your prayers! I'll do a better job of updating soon!
